    Buying a `57 RK.....

    Dear All,
This may seem a daft question.......
Several months ago I enquired on this forum about places to buy 1957 iron crosses and was pointed in the direction of Steinhauer & Luck.
Before I make an idiot of myself a contacting them regarding the above I`ve been told (from another source)I cannot purchase one from them unless I am entitled to the award.
Is this a fact and if so, any other ideas about where to obtain such an item???
Like I said, it may seem a daft question to experienced collectors, but as a relative newcomer, any help is much appreciated.

They are available for collectors from dealers as well. Some dealers have them I saw two for sale on this site in Australien.

They seem to have an early 800 Silber one and a later model as well. I bought mine from a coin shop in Muenchen a couple of years ago for 400 DM. I believe they are getting rare, the only real quality ones are the early 1960's ones!

Steinhauer sold the 57 pieces quite openly to anyone who wanted to buy them. There was never any official requirement to prove entitlment before being able to buy a 57 piece no matter how high an award.
The problem is more likely to be whether or not they will still bother to make them, but there is no harm in writing to ask them

        Steinhauer & Luck

Steinhauer & Luck have a website, they have pictures of thier various wares, I can only find the EK on thier website no Knights Cross. Maybe they have given up on making these.

Just send them a mail. In Germany you need a "Sammlergenehmigung" (Authorization for collecting official German medals). Maybe they make an exception because you are a foreigner.

They stopped the production of ALL 1957 awards in 1998 I think, so they are selling their stock!
I am sure these awards are getting more and more expensive in the following years because prices for 3. Reich awards are growing like hell and there are too much high quality fakes. Many collectors will switch to the official 1957 awards as cheaper and safer alternative.

Yes, I am sure we don't have to wait very long until the first fakes arrive. So buy what you can get now. I am doing that for about 2 years because I hate the bad feeling about some 3. Reich awards when you have still this doubt... real or fake, fake or real...

                '57 DK's

Is anyone here able to tell me how many different variations of centres the 1957 DK's had in place of the swastica. I have seen DKiS's with a War Merit Cross with Swords and a DKiG with an EK.

Are these the only two variations of centres?

For the 57 versions they used the KVK for the German Cross in Silver and the EK for the German Cross in Gold as center.

Thanks Major, I have only seen three '57 awards of this type on offer through dealers and wasn't sure.
